People adopt the prayer pose of American football player Tim Tebow

First came planking, then owling; and now here’s Tebowing, the latest pose-striking phenomenon. Enthusiasts drop to one knee and bow their head in prayer in a pose inspired by the stance of devout Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow. Hundreds of Tebowing enthusiasts have posted photos of themselves on Twitter, Facebook and dedicated Tebowing websites.

1. First came planking, then owling; and now here's Tebowing, the latest pose-striking phenomenon. Enthusiasts drop to one knee and bow their head in prayer in a pose inspired by the stance of devout Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow. Hundreds of Tebowing enthusiasts have posted photos of themselves on Twitter, Facebook and dedicated Tebowing websites.

2. The term 'To Tebow' has entered the Urban Dictionary as: 'To get down on a knee and start praying, even if everyone else around you is doing something completely different.' To take a good Tebowing photo, people are advised to kneel on the knee closest to the camera and place their elbow on their other knee. They should then place their forehead against their hand on that arm, drop their other arm and pray. The pose has been likened to that of Rodin's famous sculpture 'The Thinker'.

3. In Britain, Tebowers have chosen popular tourist locations like Buckingham Palace, the Houses of Parliament, Windsor Castle and Stonehenge for their backdrops.

4. The trend has been picked up worldwide and is proving particularly popular with tourists, brides and grooms, sports fans and young children. Some of the most popular locations worldwide for Tebowers include the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Statue of Liberty in New York and India's Taj Mahal.

5. A string of Playboy Playmates have also got in on the act by Tebowing in their lingerie.

6. NFL quarterback Tebow, 24, is the son of Christian missionaries and he has previously written the names of Biblical verses on his face ahead of games. He now kneels in prayer on the sidelines before and after NFL matches. The new craze has seen his name rocket to the top of Google's trending searches and Tebow tweeted 'Love it!' as his trademark move went global.

8. Even the Broncos' opponents have taken part in the craze. Players from the Kansas City Chiefs adopt the pose in the endzone prior to facing the Denver Broncos on January 1, 2012

9. The craze has spread to other sports, too. Rocky, the mascot of the Denver Nuggets basketball team wears a Denver Broncos Tim Tebow jersey and strikes a Tebowing pose on the court after the Nuggets defeated the Miami Heat 117-104 on January 13, 2012
